                            Brief Description
                            -----------------
From the Strategy First art team that brought you Steel Panthers and the
warfare experts at Simulations Canada, comes the swashbuckling high seas
battles of Man Of War. Set in the age of fighting sail, Man of War recreates
the action of naval battle on the high seas. You control your fleet as the
Admiral, sending and receiving orders from your flag ship. This is a turn based
simulation with a lot of attention to detail. Man Of War is unique in its
resolution phase as you see the action in first-person perspective 3D. The game
can be played against a human or computer opponent or if you wish computer
against itself. Network and Modem play are included. There are 12 historically
accurate scenarios included in Man Of War. As well, there is a scenario editor
to create your own high seas adventure and a campaign mode.


                          About the DEMO VERSION
                          ----------------------
The following features have been DISABLED in the Man Of War DEMO VERSION.

Due to space restrictions,
- All cutscenes have been replaced with still frames.
- It was not possible to include any of the background music soundtracks.

Main Menu Screen:
- The Campaign, Multi-player (modem/serial/network) and the Scenario editor
  are not accessible in this demo.

Options Popup:
- The Files button has been disabled, therefore saving and loading
  games is not possible.
- The Credits button is also not available.

New Scenario:
- The Camperdown scenario is the only scenario available in this demo version.
- Please note that the game will end after 15 turns.
- The Custom Scenario button has been disabled.

Sound setup

Before you run Man Of War for the first time you must configure your sound
card. Go to the MOW directory and type SETSOUND.
Follow the on-screen directions.


Starting the game
-----------------

Go to the MOW directory and type MOW.

WIN95 Note: Man Of War must be played in Full Screen. Game performance may vary
            with machine configuration.


About the FULL VERSION
----------------------
The following text provides an overview of the features included in the
full retail version.

    - Time of the day and weather conditions represented graphically.
      These changing weather conditions affect the efficiency of ships involved
      in battle and therefore influence tactics and strategies.

    - All ship classes accurately represented in the 3D view. Both for
      the 3D ship you stand on and the surrounding pre-rendered ships.

    - Fully rendered cut-scenes for special events happening to your ships
      such as ships exploding, burning, sinking, being boarded and more.

    - Scenario introduction cut-scenes with narration of the historical events
      leading up to the battle.

    - 10 original musical scores that play directly from your CD.

Historical scenarios

    The commercial version includes 12 full scale historical scenarios that
    can be played from either side, against the computer or a human opponent.
    The included scenarios are:

    Cabrita Point
        On July the 12th 1801, 12 British ships confront a Franco-Spanish
        fleet of 12 ships off the coast of Spain.

    Camperdown
        On October 9, 1797, the British send a 23 ship fleet to intercept
        a Dutch fleet of 25 ships off the coast of Holland.

    Cape St. Vincent
        On February 14, 1797, a Spanish fleet of 39 ships is spotted by
        an outnumbered and outgunned British fleet.

    Chesapeake bay
        This battle of the American War of Independence was fought between
        the British and the French who were aiding the Americans by reinforcing
        Washington's siege of Yorktown. It was September the 5th, 1781.

    The Glorious First of June
        On the 1st of june, 1794, a British fleet of 37 ships attacks a
        French 34 ship fleet escorting a convoy at night.

    Dogger Bank
        On August 5, 1781, 12 British ships encounter a Dutch fleet of
        20 ships at Dogger Bank.

    Lissa
        A 4 ship squadron under British command confronts 10 French ships
        at Lissa, a small island off the Dalmatian coast on March the
        14th, 1811.

    Sadras
        A force of 11 British ships battle 18 French ships sent to help
        protect Dutch colonies off the Indian ocean. It is February the
        17th, 1782.

    The Saints
        On April 12, 1782, A British fleet of 45 ships collides with
        a French 40 ship fleet between Guadeloupe and Domenica.

    San Domingo
        A British force of 11 ships intercepts 8 French ships on February
        the 5th, 1806.

    Trafalgar
        Certainly the best known sea battle of the era, a Franco-Spanish
        fleet of 40 ships is cut off by Nelson's 33 ship fleet on October
        21, 1805.

    Ushant
        On July 28, 1778, a French force of 46 ships faces a British
        fleet of 38 ships off the coast of Ushant, an island 100 miles
        west of France.


CAMPAIGN MODE
        A campaign mode is also included in the full version. The campaign game
        comes complete with it's own customised rules and victory conditions.
        Rise in Rank and Authority as you successfully complete your missions.


MULTI-PLAYER MODE
        All the historical scenarios as well as all custom scenarios can
        be played against a remote enemy over a modem, a serial connection
        or an IPX network. The systems will automatically transfer custom
        scenarios to one another.


SCENARIO EDITOR
        Man of War's Scenario Editor provides all the flexibility needed to
        create full scale battles involving up to 150 ships. This includes
        control over the time of day the battle takes place and the subsequent
        weather conditions. Multi national fleets can also be created using
        accurate ship creation data for 5 major nations of the time (the United
        States, the British, the French, the Dutch and the Spanish). This
        creates the possibility of making hundreds of ship class and number of
        gun variations. Crew quality is also adjustable as well as numerous
        other variables in this very user friendly editor.
