# Pokémon: The First Musings Developed By: SPAZM0016 a.k.a. Dr. Dos (age 10?) Compiled By: Dr. Dos (age 33) Version: 1.00 Date: Mar. 21, 2022 ## Description "Pokémon: The First Musings" is a collection of numerous, mostly incomplete games inspired by the Pokémon series I made as a child in the late 1990s. If the dates are to be trusted, I was making this when I was 11 all the way to when I was 13, but I do not trust the dates and suspect I resaved them at various times when revisiting them over the years. These are not good games in the traditional sense of the word, but they have that enthusiastic childhood fiction energy which can make the experience a lot more fun and funnier in ways not originally intended. I streamed the games with some actual content to them (See WorldsOfZZT on YouTube) and folks seemed to enjoy it. If you try playing them, I highly recommend using a modern more advanced port of ZZT with the ability to arbitrarily change boards, walk through walls, and freeze time. The games rarely provide enough health and ammo, and many fights require tanking dozens of stars to get through. Several do not work at all, sometimes in the player's favor by having your foe stop moving, and sometimes against the player by having health bars not deplete. These files were lost to me for more than two decades, having been developed on my family's first computer. I was eventually able to recover data from the second hard drive. The original hard drive is likely beyond repair, clicking rapidly before shutting itself off. I am unsure if it would have any other ZZT content on it that wasn't migrated to the second larger drive. ## Contents ### Pokemonb.zzt / POKEMONB.ZZT "Pokémon Blue Version Part 1: Rocket Rumble" Defeat the eight gym leaders of Kanto to conquer the gym challenge. Then enter the "P1 Competition" for a greater challenge? Lastly, take on the Elite Four and Team Rocket themselves. This is the most complete of the games and the most wild, featuring numerous genetically engineered derivatives of Hitmonchan/lee with names like HITMONKILL. Also you can earn bonus points for letting Gary die. ### Pokemonr.zzt / POKEMONR.ZZT "Pokémon Red Version Part 2: The Mysterious Mystic Pokemon!" Capture the three mystical (not legendary) birds of Kanto: Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres before Team Rocket can. Introduces Butch and Cassidy from the anime. Spoilers: You will be too slow and Giovanni will fuse the three birds into one new Pokémon named "Elementron" or "Elementos" depending on who you ask. Also "Mega Raticate", many years before the games would introduce mega evolution as a concept. ### PKMN.txt The mandatory text file for publication on the ZZT archives. I have found an email indicating that I did submit the file, and this was pre-minimum quality requirements so I'm unsure why Red/Blue were never properly added back in the day. ### PKMNCRDG.ZZT "Pokémon Trading Card Game ZZT" Of course there's more than just the original games and anime. Features a map of Kanto, and the ability to pick one of three sets of cards from Professor Oak. Nothing in here implies what gameplay was to be like. ### POKEDEX.ZZT No name is listed anywhere. This seems to be again inspired by the trading card game with just a single board containing a blank card checklist, and a list of the best cards by value and power. This isn't actually meant to be a game or shared reference material, but me attempting to use ZZT as a text storage medium, as the two best cards listed were ones I had as a kid, but by no means would they be considered the best at the time. ### PKMC.ZZT "Pokémon Cyan: Team Rocket's Rocket" Giovanni is going to just launch a bunch of master balls from orbit and catch a ton of pokémon at once with them. Includes dubious rumors from the Internet mixed with actual information about Pokémon from the second generation of games. ### PKMNCRDT.ZZT Another nameless card game inspired world. I think I started this one after the Game Boy version of the trading card game was announced. We had some weird ideas about what that would be like, imagining a world like ours where you'd have to get money and go to Toys R' Us to buy cards. You can go to a mall and visit a McDonalds knockoff. ### WWTBAM.ZZT "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire: Pokémon/Simpsons Edition" Peak turn of the century material. Very incomplete despite being the only two things I had any knowledge of at the time. ### POKEMONM.ZZT "Pokémon The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back" A short introduction and half-finished gameplay board based on the first Pokémon film. Try not to drown in a violent storm while at sea. Saving yourself has not been implemented. The drowning has been implemented. Misty will be upset that you still owe her a bike if (when) you drown. ### TRTCG.ZZT "Team Rocket's Rocket" A different Team Rocket game. This time playing like the anime based games but inspired by the Team Rocket expansion to the TCG. ### POKEMONG.ZZT "Pokémon Green Part 3: The Egg of Excitement" The third "mainline" game of the series. Everybody battles to determine who gets to keep Togepi. Presumably inspired by the episode "Who Gets to Keep Togepi?" Fight a mixture of gym leaders, Team Rocket, and the Elite Four. Features Giovanni having a breakdown when you call him out on the Hitmondeath thing. Ends abruptly. ### WW2BAPM.ZZT "Who Wants To Be A Pokémon Master" Another Who Wants To Be A Millionaire game, this time without the Simpsons. Play as Ash and answer two whole trivia questions asked by host Regis Philbin. (Please imagine that for a moment.) ### pkmn-readme.txt This file. ## Errata Actually, these worlds still existing rules. I was _ecstatic_ when I found them, and think it's wonderful that I had the ability to create my own video games with ZZT at such a young age. Not included is a high score file that contained not only my name, but the full name of one of my cousins indicating that I made somebody else play Pokémon Blue.
