THE BARD'S LORE I CLUEBOOK
--------------------------

Greetings fellow adventurer!
Before you is a complete walkthru of
this game. I shall reveal all and spare
you no secrets. Let's begin in the
beautiful city of Lorraine...

You start from the guild, east of town.
You need to have atleast one warrior in
your party to complete the adventure.
At the Castle the guard will ask you for a password.
The password can be found from the four statues
in the town. They each contain 2 letters of the
final word: MONARCHY. Warwick, who lives to the west
of town will also give you a hint if you ask him.
Tell that to the guard and
he will let you see the king. The King urges you
to rescue his queen and find the city key, which
has been stolen.

The City Key can be found in the Dragon Temple,
far south of town. But they won't let you in without
the Dragon Cape. It is time to go and pay Shaggy a visit.
Shaggy's bar is located to the east, just walk right down
into the wine cellar. There are chests in all of the small
rooms there. Mostly ratshit actually. In one of them you will
find matches. Could come in handy. In the center room you will
find a secret door, leading to Shaggy's hideout.
Before you can face him you must conquer a hord of rats.
It shouldn't be much of a problem though.
Defeat Shaggy and take his Dragon Cape. Now you are ready
for the Dragon Temple.

Did you visit the brothel?
You must find the secret passage to access
the whorehouse. Go to the statue, northwest, and
walk right thru the wall (see the mapbook).
The whore will give you a good deal.

And maybe you should visit Sid and get
some weapons and armour before you venture
into the Dragon Temple dungeons.

If your bard is out of songs, visit the Lore Inn.
They have refreshing drinks there. Some drinks will
affect other members of your party, so I suggest you
buy drinks for everyone. It will boost the morale.

Let's go to the Dragon Temple.
Bard playing veterans will recognize this first
dungeon. It is my way of saluting the original
Bard Tale series.
First thing on level one is to disarm the trap ahead.
If your rouge can't see it, have your conjurer cast a Trap Zap.
Watch the poisonous gas in the center of level one.
Look at the map and walk to the stairs to the northeast.
Level two is somewhat more challenging. Dorgoth awaits here,
and you must defeat him to get the City Key.
There are some nice treasures in chests here. See your map
and pick them up as you go along.
Go south and walk thru the secret door. Then battle Dorgoth.
With the City Key in hand leave the Dragon Temple.
Remember to unlock the City Gate before you go and see the
King. He will take the city key from you and give you all
a nice reward.

Now the time has come to enter the wilderness.
Visit Ed and Al and upgrade your equipment (see map).
Then it is time for you first horrible experience.
Visit the jungle and defeat the feared Predator.
Dutch will warn you of the beast.
There is only one way to win this battle.
Have your Sorcerer cast a DIIL (disrupt illusion) spell
before the Predator assaults your party.
then go to his lair (see map) and take the trail to the other
end of the jungle. There are two teleporters here that Saruman
has put up. Don't let them confuse you. Just keep going back and
forth in them and they will eventually teleport you to Saruman's
domains. Visit him and he will help you to penetrate the mountain.
Then return to the wilderness.

See Morgana if you need to heal your party.
The Camp is only populated at nighttime,
visit it for some extra help.

Now it is time to seek Grendel out.
The entrance to the mountain is now opened.
Saruman has taken care of that for you.
Enter the mountain.
The first level is tricky. You need to stay on
the path and check your map constantly. There
are returning paths everywhere, so be on your guard.
Don't forget to pick up the rich treasure to the north (see map).
It has been hidden behind a secret door.
If you are on the right path you will meet Ripley, she will
warn you about the dreaded Alien that lurks in here.
You must defeat this monster before you can continue.
Muscle and power is all you need this time.
Then take the stairs to level 2.
Level 2 contains a horrible no-return trap to the north,
don't enter it! You will meet Warwick again to the east.
Before you enter level 3, you need to get the Dragon Sword and
some auxiliary equipment for your warrior. This sword is brutal
enough for Grendel, you must have it. Take the secret door to the
north and defeat the Grendel Guards and the sword is yours!
Enter Level 3.
This is the Grendel's lair. You are close to completing this
adventure. You must make your way through the spinning doors,
to the south, to get to the teleporter that will take you to
the inside of Grendel's lair.

Now it's up to the strength of your party and of your warrior.
The battle against Grendel and his alikes will be severely tough,
but you can make it. Don't waste magic power on Grendel, he is
close to immune against stuff like that. He can only be slayed
with cold steel.
After you have finished the beast, you can free the queen from the
next room. You must keep a slot vacant for the queen to occupy.
Now, return to the city of Lorraine and the King.
He will be overwhelmed with joy and your quest is thus complete.

As a bonus, there will now be a passage to the blank map
available when you enter the town square. See map. You might
get a glimpse of the queen topless at the pool!

I thank you for playing this game with me, I hope your
adventure was fulfilling.
We might meet up again in THE BARD'S LORE II -The Dark Tower.
Until then, farewell.
