When this has finished run the INSTALL.EXE file, this will allow you to set-up your sound card. When you have finished with the install file select the 'Save Changes and Quit' option. To run the Counter Action Demo type START and press return at the MS-DOS prompt or double click the file called START from WIndows'95. I hope you enjoy playing Counter Action. To order the retail version of Counter Action please contact your local retailer, it is published by Mindscape International. *** Controlling the Counter Acton Demo *** CONTROL PANEL The Control Panel is used to control the current game settings. You may invoke it by pressing the button located in the top right corner of the screen. The following controls are available within the Control Panel: SOUND Use this scrollbar to control the sound effects volume. MUSIC Use this scrollbar to control the music volume. SOUNDTRACK Use the arrow buttons to switch between the available soundtracks. RESUME GAME Select this button to close the Control Panel and return to the current game. EXIT Select this button to terminate the mission and return to the MISSION MENU. GAME SCREEN To the right of the main game window you will find a control button, information table and the game map. CONTROL BUTTON You can use this button to invoke the Control Panel, this can be used at any time to change the game settings. CALL REINFORCEMENT BUTTONS On certain missions there will be Call Reinforcement Buttons, these are situated just below the Control Button. You can use these during the game to call for reinforcements, i.e. troops or aviation. * Left-clicking on the Call Reinforcement Button lets you call a reinforcement when you need it although they will not appear immediately. * When you are using aviation, each of the buttons corresponds to one bomber squadron. To call your aircraft you need to left-click on the Call Reinforcement Button and then point at the target for the bomb strike. You can do this either within the game window or on the game map by left-clicking the mouse button. Right-clicking allows you to cancel the bomb strike. INFORMATION TABLE Below the Call Reinforcement Buttons is the Information Table. This displays the following information on your current unit or group: number of units in the current group, group damage level, each unit type in the group including ammunition available and damage level. At the lower left of the Information Table you will see some figures. The lower figure corresponds to the total number of units in the current group. The upper figure shows the number of units for the current type. * You can look through all unit types in the current group by left-clicking the mouse within the Information Table. * Right-clicking the mouse within the Information Table displays only units of the type shown within the Table for the current group. GROUP CONTROL BUTTONS Just below the Information Table you will find the Group Control Buttons. You can use these buttons to issue orders to the selected group. They are also duplicated by the A, S, Z, X keys. You may issue the following orders to your troops during the game: move to a point attack enemy unit (with all arms available) terminate previous order * Chose the desired order by left-clicking the mouse on the corresponding button or by pressing the relevant key on the keyboard. Now point at the target with your mouse cursor (within the game window or via the game map) and left-click the mouse to confirm the order. * Right-clicking all the units in the current group and they will start acting according to the most appropriate order for the current situation. If you right-click on the enemy unit, the attack order is selected, otherwise the move to a point order is used. When you issue an order to your infantry you should remember that they have explosives at their disposal (to blow up buildings) as well as guns and grenades. THE MAP In the lower right corner of the screen you will see the Game Map. The location of the Soviet troops is indicated by the RED points whilst the German troops are shown as YELLOW. Enemy units become visible on the map as soon as you are within close proximity. The White frame shows that part of the battlefield currently displayed in the game window. GAME WINDOW You can control your troops within the Game Window. You can change the area of battlefield shown either by scrolling the Game Window or by clicking at the selected point on the Game Map. * If you change the location by clicking on the Game Map, the battlefield view will be centered on the selected point within the Game Window.
